Catalogues
Catalogues come in both printed and electronic forms. They contain a full list of products and/or services with brief descriptions on each. A list form is also advisable if there is too much information in order to not clutter the design. Catalogues can also focus solely on a single product instead of the full range, giving details on its specific features and benefits.
Catalogues are most commonly printed in full colour as they usually contain multiple images that need to be vibrant to attract attention. Catalogues have no specific size layout but a general method is the go by international paper sizes such as A5, A4 and A2 as these can be folded in half to achieve one or the other and are also printer paper friendly when taken into the print shop.
What makes up a unique catalogue?
In order to achieve an attractive and user friendly catalogue, a few things need to be considered. The design layout needs to be crisp, clean and a very legible font needs to be chosen to accompany the images.
The catalogue needs to focus on its specific target market when conceptualizing the design and colour choices. This will allow it to have its own distinctive look and feel in order to compliment the product. For instance, an expensive perfume catalogue will have a very minimalistic and elegant look to it where as a catalogue for children’s clothing will be more playful and will make use of a range of bright colours.
