The Brochure
A brochure is a folding leaflet, also known as a pamphlet that advertises certain information such as lodging, location, events and any other service or product. An example of this would be a brochure within hotels that points tourists in the right direction when looking for frequently visited places of interest. Brochures are usually printed on higher quality paper with more colour than flyers but the four colour process combined with gloss paper printing can also be used to save costs.
Electronic brochures have also recently merged as a form of brochures in order to target a wider audience other than those in your local area such as other states/provinces, countries and the international market. Electronic is useful when using the printed
brochure method of physically handing them out tisn’t possible or cost effective.
Statistics of the online brochures can be monitored without much difficulty and is immediate upon distribution where as the printed method takes a lot more effort to maintain the statistics in whether the brochures are being effective or not.
What makes up a brochure?
An advertising brochure is usually colorful with big typography, but those characteristics aren’t correct when needing a project presentation, which is generally more simple containing more statistics, facts and information, layed out in a more formal corporate brochure design style.
Some tips when planning your company brochure:
• Establish an objective and function for the brochure.
• Choose which function is going to be the focal one and make sure all three functions are based within the brochure
• Choose a brochure format that best suits the features objective.
The 3 functions of a brochure:
Information: a brochure is usually filled with the information about the new product or range of services your company offers in order to inform your potential customers with regards to this.
Advertising: if you are looking to promote one or more products or services, then brochure is one of the most important and attractive advertising mediums. For further details this function will be analyzed in the section called Advertising aspect.
Identification: a well executed brochure design allows you to maintain a similar concept throughout all of your company brochures. Keeping this concept similar will allow your company to be easily recognized and combining this with a well designed logo, will give your company its well deserved prestige and credibility.
The 3 outlined functions should have a common interaction synergy whereby the brochure should be the result of that interaction, otherwise it will subtract from its effectiveness. Maybe one of those stands out more than the others, but this shouldn’t affect your brochure design. For example, if your company decides to have a brochure designed for the launch of a new product, the function that be most dominate is the advertising but it would need the other 2 to accompany it in order for a successful representation of the information about the product as well as making your company look good.
