Billboard Design
Billboards are large outdoor structures, typically found on or alongside high-rise buildings in populated traffic areas to serve as large scale advertisements to drivers or pedestrians. Billboard designs consist of large, clever slogans or distinctive images to advertise a certain product or brand.
Billboard design is intended to advertise in the quickest possible way as they are mostly viewed in a very short time while driving by or at a traffic stop. Because of this, a billboard needs to leave a lasting impression in your memory. The key elements in
successfully accomplishing this are to use few, yet very witty words with bright colour contrast imagery or 3D renders.
Types of billboards
•Bulletin Billboards: Located mainly along high vehicle traffic area such as highway, bulletin billboards attract a lot of attention
to many drivers on a daily basis due to their massive scale. These are set up in high traffic areas where rush hour traffic, creates congestion and the drivers have not much else to do but stare and entertain themselves with the billboard ahead of them.
•Billboard Posters are smaller than their bulletin cousins and found in high populated city centers where residents, pedestrians and city traffic will frequently take note of the billboard and its branded advertisement.
•3D Billboards: The more dynamic 3D billboards are also designed in a three dimensional aspect, allowing the billboards to have an overlay of a cut out on top of it. An example of this is the billboard in advertising the new Sony Bravia 3D LCD screen for the
2010 world cup, where the player is cut out and placed a few meters ahead of the billboard itself which serves as the cutout player’s background.
•Electronic billboards are another form of billboard that deliver advertising and TV content. This content may vary between a series of static slides or a sequence of broadcast-quality video or animation. As technology evolves and costs lower, the influx of
electronic billboards will become more common, replacing those of the static print form.
Why use bilboards for advertising
Billboards design marketing, although very costly to construct and erect, has great advertising strength which lies in ability to make your brand be seen by thousands upon thousands of people. These people then use the free yet ultimately powerful
advertising method known as word of mouth to spread your brands name. The more people know about you, the more likely they are going to use you.
