3D product pack replacement
Products for brand advertising often get re-designed in either their shape or the labeling design to accompany a new look or for a promotion period. In these cases, the cost and man power required to reshoot an entire commercial for the sake of a redesign can be problematic. Most advertising agencies turn to 3d studios in events such as these.
Skyscape Visualizations are able to use a process that we like to call ‘pack replacement’. What we do when pack replacing is take the original footage of the commercial or print advert and replace it with the new artwork or package design. The trick comes in where the new packaging has to be ultra photo real in order for the viewer to believe that what they are looking at is not a 3d bottle, but actually the one that was used on set when the commercial was originally shot.
The new label or package is microscopically tracked to match the exact movement of the original. 3d lighting is then applied together with the new textures, rendered, composited and graded into the scene. Elements such as fingers or hands around the package are lifted and reapplied above the 3d model to create the illusion that it being held by the person in the commercial.
Using pack replacement technology, we are able to save clients large amount of money that is required to reshoot the commercial or print advertisement. The example below probably explains it best. More can be found on our VFX reel on the showreel page.
